Anina Major
'Sandcastle'
The artist transposes West African weaving and plaiting techniques into clay to redress the wounds stemming from the displacement and enslavement of African people in The Bahamas. A monument to vulnerability and resilience, she transmutes the harrowing into something more hopeful—a celebration of the human ability to create beauty and meaning in the face of impermanence.
