Mikio Ishiguro
'Kyo'
This re-ordering of organic forms into a linear vessel produces an unexpected illustration of fullness. Crushing fallen leaves into fine particles, the solidified paste is spread onto boards, creating an adaptive container. Pondering a state of nihility, the sculptor breathes new life into decayed matter, acknowledging the limits of control while still reaching for the allure of limitlessness.

Fallen leaves

Working primarily with natural materials, sculptor Mikio Ishiguro creates delicate tributes to the living world with a circular sensibility. His sculptures have been presented at solo exhibitions at Archipelago, Hyogo; Mizusai, Tokyo, and Mina Perhonen, Kyoto.

"I honestly never thought that with the leaves that fall from the trees in autumn, one could create a piece of contemporary craftwork."
