Scott Chaseling
'Beyond a Slippery Grip'

Playful forms coalesce in this time-bending vessel, irreverently fusing historical craftsmanship with contemporary design zeitgeists such as West Coast funk ceramics and Italy’s Memphis Group. Made with three layers of hand-rolled sheet glass, enamel is painted between each layer, then blown into its final form—a visual expression of the dance between continuity and subversion.

Glass

A glassblower trained at the South Australian School of Art and the Canberra School of Art, Scott Chaseling’s practice explores identity and place through the materiality, malleability, and fluidity of glass. An award-winning artist, his work is part of the permanent collection of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan.

"The expert panel loved Scott Chaseling’s work for the painterly quality he brings to glass, as well as for the humour and playfulness in this particular piece."
