Studio Sumakshi Singh
'Monument'

This embroidered piece speaks of the connection between architecture and the longevity of ideas. A column from Qutab Minar Complex is rendered by threading copper zari onto soluble fabric, dissolving its base and leaving a delicate structure in its wake. An allegory for the gradual disintegration of images, the artists see the building of monuments as pillars in memory’s preservation.

"It's a design that’s based on an Indo-Islamic column from a World Unesco Heritage site in Delhi, and the artist chose it in order to think about preservation and memory."
