The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize
Conceived in 2016, the annual LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize celebrates excellence, artistic merit, and newness in modern craftsmanship. Emphasising the importance of craft in contemporary culture, it also honours LOEWE’s beginnings as a collective craft workshop in 1846.
The eighth edition of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize presents a plurality of artisanal excellence that explores new material and creative possibilities. Chosen by a panel of experts from over 4,600 submissions by artisans representing 133 countries and regions, the showcase of 30 finalists spans 18 countries and regions.
An amalgamation of the palpable, the intuitive, and the time-worn, each of the finalists’ works reimagines tradition in ways that are playful and poignant. This year, each piece expresses a timely yearning for new models, systems, and sentiments.
The result is a spirited expansion of craft that opens new multidisciplinary frontiers.

THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA NATIONAL MUSEUM
The eighth edition of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize will be shown at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and documented in an exhibition catalogue.
Originally a private collection, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum was acquired by the Spanish government in 1993 and houses one of the most important pictorial collections in the world. Gathered over seven decades, almost 900 works of art reflect the exquisite taste of Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (1875-1947), his son Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (1921-2002), as well as contemporary works donated by Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza.
The Craft Prize sits comfortably inside this institution where movements, genres, and styles interlace with ease, honouring the museum’s ongoing efforts to expand access to art and culture.

LOEWE FOUNDATION
The LOEWE FOUNDATION was established as a private cultural foundation in 1988 by Enrique Loewe Lynch, a fourth-generation member of LOEWE’s founding family. Today, under the direction of his daughter Sheila Loewe, the Foundation continues to promote creativity, organise educational programs and protect cultural heritage in the fields of craft, design, photography, poetry and dance. The Foundation was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts by the Spanish government in 2002.
LOEWE
Created in Spain in 1846, LOEWE has a rich legacy of craftsmanship. Founded as a leather makers’ collective workshop, its specialised artisanal techniques and unique approach to design and manufacture has seen it evolve into one of the world’s major luxury houses.
Over the past decade, the brand has started a new chapter, presenting itself to the world as a house focused on craft and culture; evidenced through an intellectual yet playful approach to fashion, a bold and vibrant Spanish lifestyle, and unmatched expertise with leather.
These core values are reflected in the brand’s belief in the importance of craft in today’s culture, its modern interpretations of historical artistic achievements and its commitment to supporting contemporary art, craft, and culture around the world.
